EMDR + IFS PARTS Protocol: An IFS-Informed Approach to EMDR
Do you encounter blocks and defenses during EMDR reprocessing or not feel sure where to go next?
Or do you ever feel stuck with blocking beliefs, looping, dissociation or knowing how to assess readiness to proceed?
What if you never had to feel stuck again?
THAT is what Internal Family Systems offers. No More Feeling Stuck.
The EMDR+IFS PARTS Protocol integrates the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model with EMDR Psychotherapy. As EMDRIA describes the integration, the overlay of the two models allows for "a more permission-focused approach to trauma healing. EMDR remains the foundational structure upon which the healing occurs, and the IFS model is the creative, permissive, and curiosity-driven process to prepare clients for trauma processing." Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy offers us a helpful framework to navigate these complex blocks and defenses by honoring and welcoming these parts of self. Due to the consent and relationship driven model, clinicians using the IFS-informed approach find processing to be smoother and more effective, especially with complex cases and for those struggling with standard protocol.
