IASIS Microcurrent Neurofeedback

IASIS THUMBNAIL.png

One of the greatest challenges to a person’s sense of wellbeing is the experience of trauma. When human beings experience trauma, be it of a physical, psychological, emotional, or other nature, there is a cumulative impact to the brain and correspondingly to the nervous system and all other systems within the human body. Trauma, or traumatic triggering (the remembering of trauma), leads the sympathetic nervous system to release chemicals into the body that, if not properly metabolized and discharged, can lead to long term negative impact. In addition, the brain, as a mechanism of survival, can become “stuck” in patterns that have historically been adaptive to survive but may no longer be serving wellbeing.

What is IASIS MCN Neurofeedback and how does it help?

IASIS MCN Neurofeedback is a profoundly helpful tool for balancing and relaxing the brain and the nervous system. A minute, very brief ultra-microstimulation reduces the tendency toward fight or flight of the hypervigilant sympathetic nervous system. It enhances rest and recovery by supporting the “chill” part of the nervous system called the parasympathetic. As a result, most people notice feeling remarkably calm and balanced following even the first IASIS MCN Neurofeedback session.

IASIS MCN Neurofeedback does not heal or cure any illness, disease, or condition. It bathes the brain in energy allowing the autonomic nervous system to neuro-regulate. It has been found to work very effectively in tandem with other modalities and approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and other forms of evidence-based care for trauma, anxiety, depression and other concerns.

How does it work?

IASIS MCN Neurofeedback is a form of Transcranial Electrical Stimulation (TES) that transmits low intensity, noninvasive, pulses to your brain, with a signal that consists of narrow pulses approximately 120 nanoseconds in duration and 150 millivolts (mv) in amplitude or 3 pico watts of energy (3 trillionths of a watt, which is equivalent to 1/100th of an AA battery or 1 millionth of a cellphone battery).

The stimulation from IASIS MCN Neurofeedback is both positive and negative, hence the flow of energy and information flow moves in a simultaneous constant loop. This helps define the feedback nature of IASIS MCN Neurofeedback, while a concurrent transcranial electrical stimulation (TES) occurs.

Research by Dr. Mingxiong Huang shows that IASIS MCN Neurofeedback stimulates the body’s production of all brain waves, in particular high amplitude Delta waves, which is the dominant frequency generated. By stimulating healthy Delta brain waves through the TES, IASIS MCN Neurofeedback is believed to activate the cholinergic pathways, sending acetylcholine to brain activating glial cells and enhancing the glymphatic system, encouraging metabolic clearance of excess alpha & beta amyloid proteins. Studies show that by increasing GABA, Serotonin, Endorphins and Dopamine, there is a natural decrease of homocysteine, adrenaline, cortisol, and other agents in the brain and body that are needing to be cleared. This process allows for increased neuro-regulation.

IASIS MCN Neurofeedback FAQs

Is the stimulation harmful?

IASIS MCN Neurofeedback operates on the foundation of Hormesis, or the dose-response relationship whereby a small dose of a stimulus that could be hurtful at a high dose in fact elicits a positive and favorable biological response from a cell or organism at a low dose. IASIS MCN Neurofeedback uses the smallest amount of energy needed to produce a positive benefit to the brain and overall nervous system. Precautions are taken to ground the electrical currents so that patients and providers are safe during all treatments.

How long is treatment?

Your provider will work with you to determine your specific treatment plan, but most individuals need between 12-20 sessions to achieve and sustain benefit. While every case is different, individuals training (or de-training) on the IASIS MCN Neurofeedback system often report noticeable observations in 3-5 sessions. Individuals often achieve sustainable results after 12-20 sessions though some individuals need more sessions depending on how long their concerns have been present. Some individuals choose to continue care in order to move toward optimal brain functioning and wellness.

Do I have to do anything during treatments?

No! One benefit of IASIS MCN Neurofeedback compared to many other forms of neurofeedback is that the patient is passive, meaning that you will not need to do anything during the brief treatment except sit and relax.

Will I feel anything during or after?

IASIS MCN Neurofeedback patients report feeling nothing at all during treatments. Following each treatment each person’s experience may be different. As your system releases anything it has held in a stuck pattern, you may experience the symptoms of the metabolic release. Your provider will provide a tracking method for both of you together to track your progress as you move through treatments.

Are there any other benefits?

IASIS MCN Neurofeedback is also an educational tool. The system allows the recipient to view their EEG reading and muscle activity which gives them the unique opportunity to consciously calm their heart and respiratory rate. This makes the IASIS MCN Neurofeedback experience intentional, a practice of ‘mindfulness training’.

Do I need to stop my medication during IASIS MCN Neurofeedback Treatment?

Individuals who are currently on medication need not stop their medication, nor should they without the direction of their physician. Often times, patients may experience that they become more sensitive to their medication and need a lower dose, at which point they will be directed to their physicians. It is also common for people following full treatment protocols to ask if they may go off their medication when they observe how positive they feel after IASIS MCN Neurofeedback Treatment. All patients will be referred back to their physicians for their guidance and recommendations.

Are there any contraindications for IASIS MCN Neurofeedback Treatment?

There are no contra-indications for IASIS MCN Neurofeedback Treatment.

Do the impacts last?

IASIS MCN Neurofeedback is a form of Operant Conditioning (OC) Biofeedback. This means that it uses signal displays to reinforce new patterns that prompt the brain to change its default physiology. IASIS MCN Neurofeedback is not a cure, but it has been shown to reinforce new brain patterns that produce an optimal brain environment in which to continue healing, which is encouraged through the form of psychotherapy, EMDR, somatic interventions, yoga, mindfulness practices, exercise or whatever is best suited for your particular issue. Most people experience enduring effects after 12-20 sessions. Some people choose to continue long term care to maintain optimal wellness.

In clinical use, IASIS Micro Current Neurofeedback has been observed to be significantly helpful for the following issues:

 depression

  • post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms

  • anxiety

  • hypervigilance (or vigilant alertness)

  • fears

  • anger/rage

  • deep sadness

  • irritability and restlessness

  • feelings of helplessness

  • impulsivity

  • sleeping problems

  • obsession/compulsions

  • spasticity, movement, and balance problems caused by stroke and in some cases spinal cord injury

  • chronic fatigue syndrome

  • fibromyalgia pain

  • attention-deficit and hyperactivity problems

closed-head injury and neurological symptoms of:

  • irritability and explosiveness

  • loss of energy, motivation, and sense of humor

  • problems of clarity, thinking and estimating clearly

  • memory difficulties

  • sleeping problems

  • being unable to do more than one thing at a time

  • problems following conversations and reading material

  • problems absorbing and taking to heart what people say

IASIS MCN is painless (the stimulation is unnoticed by most people) and it is safe for adults and children.
